Chakras

Humans are not only made of flesh and blood, but we are above all energetic beings, with chakras, which are energy centers inside and outside the body. These are connected along the spine via the energy channels. Each chakra supplies energy to a specific area of the body. The more energy that flows into us, the fresher and more alive we feel. However, this energy flow can be blocked by traumatic events or
other situations. As a result, certain areas of our energetic system suffer from an undersupply. Consequently, diseases or dysfunctions of internal organs also occur.

The chakras do not exist organically, just like the soul, but have nevertheless had their place in various spiritual areas, such as yoga, meditation, tantra, reiki and in healing systems such as TCM, Ayurveda, etc. for thousands of years.

The knowledge of the chakras, like all other basic energetic concepts, has its origin in the scriptures of the “Golden Age”, the Vedic scriptures and the Upanishads (Vedic is an Indo-European language and a predecessor of Sanskrit; the Upanishads are a collection of philosophical writings).

Since the chakras are not visible to the physical eyes, recognition of their importance has taken a while for us in the West. Now, however, they have a permanent place in many systems, especially if they are of Eastern origin.

There are many chakras in and outside the human body. In my yoga and meditation classes, I work with the 7 main chakras inside the body, as well as the earth star and soul star chakras outside the physical body. When the energy is flowing in your chakras, your body, mind and spirit are healthy.

Support the Energy Flow in your Chakras

There are different methods to support the energy flow in your chakras, there are different methods to get to know yourself better: Yoga and Meditation is one of the many!

Do you want to learn more?

Yoga & Chakra Workshop

In my Chakra Day Workshop (8 hours), or in the eight-part Chakra Yoga and Meditation Series (8 yoga and meditation sessions of 90 mins each) you will practically learn a lot of new things about yourself and your chakras. The day workshop as well as the eight-part Chakra Yoga and Meditation series are suitable for beginners as well as advanced practitioners.

Your 1st chakra is also called ROOT CHAKRA, BASE CHAKRA or MULADHARA CHAKRA.

It is located at the base of the spine between the anus, genitals and coccyx. The earth is its element. Its color is red.

Themes of the 1st chakra

Confidence, Strength, Self-preservation are the themes of our basechakra. When the energy is flowing in the 1st chakra, we are confidently grounded, feel safe and secure in life, allow us to be vulnerable, see problems as challenges, live in the here and now, trust in the process of life and value ourselves!

Health problems in the spine, lower back, legs and feet belong to the energetic area of the 1st chakra. The solid structures in the body, the bones, the entire skeleton and the teeth are also influenced by the root chakra. As the base of the spine, it determines immobility or flexibility, defense or openness.

If the energy in the root chakra is unbalanced, we usually have a fearful personality. On a physical level, constipation, lower back pain and sciatica problems, for example, have to do with a root chakra imbalance.

If the energy in the root chakra is balanced, we feel safe and secure in life, allow ourselves to be vulnerable, see problems as a challenge, live in the here and now, trust in the process of life and appreciate ourselves!

Activation and harmonization of the root chakra

Your 2nd Chakra is also called SVADHISTHANA CHAKRA, SACRAL CHAKRA or SEXUAL CHAKRA. It is located in the area of the lower spine and the sexual organs. The water is its element. The moon is its associated celestial body. Its color is orange.

Themes of the 2nd Chakra – Svadhisthana

On the emotional and energetic level its themes are: Creativity, sexuality, joy of life, lust, optimism, shame and sadness.

Overemphasis on pleasure gratification, compulsive sexuality or sexual manias are one side of an unbalanced 2nd chakra. Frigidity, bladder infections, potency problems or orgasm difficulties are the other. Menstrual cramps, and for women the problem of accepting their own femininity in a masculine world, can have their energetic origin in the unbalanced sacral chakra.

In the philosophy of yoga, the sexual encounter is a communication between the 14 chakras of both partners- they all have to be open to experience a loving and universal encounter with each other beyond the sexual, physical pleasure!

The challenges of this energy-centre

The challenge of the 2nd Chakra – Svadhisthana is the opening for a conscious interaction with other people, for friendships, social relationships and partnerships. It stands for polarity and conflict, and at the same time for the longing to overcome the dualism of masculinity and femininity, of Yin and Yang in the fusion on a higher level. The other is your mirror, opens the door to a part of your own self, which you might not want to admit and which you might try to suppress. Relationships are not accidental, they are the confrontation with your own strengths and weaknesses. They challenge us to awareness and inner growth.

If the energy in the sacral chakra is imbalanced, on the EMOTIONAL LEVEL we tend to:

exhibitionism

relationships without depth

frigidity

possessiveness

Imbalance on the PHYSICAL LEVEL can lead to:

impotence

bladder-prostate problems

ailments in our sexual organs

lower back pain can arise.

A person with a balanced 2nd Chakra – Svadhisthana tends to:

have an open personality

likes to share

is passionate & “we-oriented”

maintains a conscious approach to seher/his sexual energy and the creative energy flows

Activation and Harmonization of the Sacral Chakra

The color orange: orange clothes, orange food

Contact with the element of water: bathing, swimming, walks by the water body

Walks, meditations in the moonlight

Stones: carnelian, orange calcite

Interpersonal contact

Partner dances

Yoga: Sat Kriya, frogs, cobra, butterfly, cat-cow, pelvic floor lifting

Affirmations for the 2nd Chakra – Svadhisthana:🧡 I feel! I give myself permission to feel! I have the right to feel!
🧡 My sexual and creative energy is in the flow!

Your 3rd chakra, also called MANIPURA CHAKRA, NAVEL CHAKRA or SOLAR PLEXUS. It is located at the level of the navel.

The element fire and the celestial body sun are assigned to the 3rd chakra. Its associated color is yellow. Your Manipura stands for FULFILLMENT and POWER. It is the center of our PERSONALITY, INDIVIDUALITY and healthy SELF-SECURITY.

A balanced 3rd Chakra

A balanced navel chakra gives you the strength to carry your soul’s needs into the world. As a yang chakra, it enables self-assertion, drive and risk-taking. When the energy flows in your navel chakra, you have the courage necessary to make changes in your life. It strengthens your perseverance and patience to carry your dreams into the world.

The root chakra gives the drive to start things. The navel chakra allows you to implement them and persevere until you reach your goal. A strong 3rd chakra gives you power and organization.

A balanced solar plexus shows itself in spontaneity, joy of life and inner happiness.

Themes of the Solar Plexus

The solar plexus is the seat of deep emotional energies. In an unbalanced state, repressed passion and aggression are concentrated there. Burdensome feelings, painful memories and emotional confusion are worked through the navel chakra. It becomes clear that emotions always have to do with the self and that external events are only the trigger. This allows the deeper causes to be recognized.

The navel chakra forces to deal with the issues of power, arbitrariness and ambition. When the navel chakra is in balance, one stays with oneself in conflict situations, not seeking the fight, but not avoiding it either, should it be necessary. Fear, anger or emotionality do not make you blind, but you “look the truth in the eye” and take responsibility for yourself!

A loss of energy in the 3rd chakra affects the core of one’s attitude towards life. It can express itself for example in a lack of self-confidence, inferiority complexes, shyness, mistrust and fears on the one side, as well as arbitrariness and ruthlessness in asserting one’s own interests. One seeks recognition on the outside instead of looking for it on the inside, wants to control all situations, is incapable of criticism and conflict. Every action is seen
through the lens of personal advantage and enrichment. A person whose solarplexus is not in balance is often distrustful and unable to ask for help. He/she might have issues to accept assistance from others.

A strong 3rd Chakra – Manipura

A strong 3rd chakra enables one to believe in one’s own abilities, to take responsibility for one’s own destiny, and to let go of the role of passive victim. Fear of one’s own power and passive aggression often express themselves in self-destructive tendencies on a physical level (e.g. bulimia).

The navel chakra regulates digestion and thus the processing of food. Problems with digestion, eating disorders, stomach ulcers are related to an imbalance in the 3rd chakra. Psychologically, digestion means the ability to process positive and negative experiences, and to learn from experiences. If this is not successful, stress and nervousness are the result, which then “hits the stomach”. Bile and liver have to do with bitterness, inner dissatisfaction and anger processing. The liver is the largest detoxification station of the body, if it is impaired, this leads to fatigue and feelings of weakness. The 3rd chakra quickly becomes unbalanced by too much meat and sugar or drug use.

An unbalanced 3rd Chakra

If the energy in the 3rd chakra (Manipura) is unbalanced, we tend to be dogmatic and stingy on an emotional level, always looking for confirmation in the outside and are egoistic. On the physical level, a disbalance in the 3rd chakra manifests itself in diabetes, digestive problems, eating disorders, stomach problems and kidney problems.

If the energy in the 3rd chakra is balanced, on an emotional level we typically are “we-oriented”, pragmatic, full of stamina and willpower and healthy self-confidence.

Activation and Harmonization of the Navel Chakra

The color yellow: yellow clothes and food

Aromatherapy: lemon

Light, warmth, fire

Stones: citrine, tiger’s eye

Centered physical activities

Abdominal breathing and fire breathing, laughing from the depth of the abdomen

Positive reinforcement of self-esteem and self-confidence

Communication with the soul of a person you are angry with

Yoga exercises for the navel, Sat Kriya, frogs

Affirmations for the navel chakra:

💛 I do! I give myself permission to make! I have the right to make!
💛 I do! I allow myself to do! I have the right to do!
💛 I am active! I allow myself to be active! I have the right to be active!

The right and task of the 4th chakra, also called ANAHATA CHAKRA or HEART CHAKRA are:
To give love and to receive love.

Its descriptive verb is: I love – I am loved!

This Chakras’ assigned element is the air and its associated color is green.

An open heart can give and receive love without conditions. A balanced heart chakra allows love and devotion without losing oneself.

The themes of the Heart Chakra

One of the learning tasks of the heart chakra is to accept and love oneself with one’s own weaknesses and faults. Those who suppress and do not accept their own shadow sides cannot accept them in others neither. You have to know who you are in order to be able to love!

The heart chakra is the bridge of the 3 lower chakras, which regulate the instincts, with the higher energies of the spirit and human consciousness, the upper 3 chakras. It is the center of emotional awareness. When the energies in the lower triangle are balanced, you are not ruled by your passions, and find an honest relationship with your own feelings and needs. Feelings and instincts can be acted out without losing control of them.

The Kalpatarn

Between the navel chakra and the heart chakra is the KALPATARN, the tree of desires. In yoga, it is believed that it fulfills the desire of the one who approaches it in innocence and humility. Miracles become possible when we live from the heart. The prerequisite for this is to open one’s heart, formulate desires, give them to the universe and trust in their realization. This includes the ability to feel and express gratitude.

A central aspect of the heart chakra is to develop compassion for oneself and to heal the wounds and scars of the past.

The heart chakra concentrates the self-healing powers on a physical and psychological level. It represents the healing power of the heart for oneself and others. You can mother yourself and heal the hurts of your inner child!

An unbalanced 4th Chakra – Anahata

People with an unbalanced heart-chakra often feel lonely, sad, have either an attached or very distant personality. Many also tend to be passive aggressive or even have the helper syndrome. On a physical level, the imbalance manifests itself in asthma or cardiovascular problems for example. Heart, lungs and the respiratory system are closely related to the heart chakra. A balanced 4th chakra activates the thymus gland and plays an important role in the defense against diseases. Immune diseases, allergies, cancer, asthma, cardiovascular disorders and the like are related to dysfunctions of the heart chakra.Lung diseases have to do with grief and fear of change, spinal problems in the chest area with wanting to hide and armor oneself.

The 4th Chakra – Anahata is the center of spiritual devotion, humility and selflessness, which are rather foreign to modern society. Western culture usually associates them negatively with self-sacrifice, letting oneself be taken advantage of or the helper syndrome, while assertiveness, action orientation and elbow tactics are interpreted positively. However, the heart qualities such as openness and receptivity are important prerequisites for recognizing the deep needs of the soul and realizing them in life.

If the energy is stuck in the navel chakra, one’s actions are egoistic. One remains entangled in unprocessed feelings and fears, burdening current emotional situations with pain from the past. An unbalanced heart chakra manifests in a craving for criticism and an inability to accept oneself and others as they are.

The heart chakra regulates the sense of touch. The arms and hands as the most important organs of touch and the skin as the most important organ of touch are especially important for the energetic balance of the heart chakra. Exercises that work with the arms, hands and fingers are especially effective in harmonizing it, as is massage.

A balanced Heart Chakra

People with a balanced 4th chakra have a deep trust that “all is well as it is,” have harmonious relationships, maintain a harmonious relationship with nature, live in unconditional love and give from the heart. An open heart can give and receive love without conditions. A balanced 4th chakra enables love and devotion without losing oneself.

Activation and Harmonization of the 4th Chakra – Anahata

The color green: green clothes, contact with nature, green foods

Stone: rose quartz

Doing something good for oneself, doing something for others, giving comfort, active forgiveness, babysitting and playing games

Positive projections, letting go of negative projections

Massage, touch

Yoga: baby pose, side twists, ego eradicator, berry hold

Affirmations for the 4th Chakra – Anahata:

💚 I love! I give myself permission to love! I have the right to love!
💚 I am loved! I allow myself to be loved! I have the right to be loved!

The 5th Chakra – Vishuddha – represents the power and courage to speak one’s truth, regardless of the opinion of others. Its element is ether. Its color is blue. The element of the throat chakra is ether. In the understanding of yoga, ether, Akasha, is the space in which everything manifests and connects. It represents purity, expansion and vastness and permeates everything. It merges the elements of the lower chakras – earth, water, fire, air.

Themes of the 5th Chakra – Vishuddha

The themes of the throat chakra are personal expression and communication of one’s thoughts and feelings. When we speak from the heart, we reach our counterpart in the heart. You show yourself authentically as you are.

On a walk through New York in 2010 I saw two posters. One said, “Listening is an act of love!” on the other it said “Tell your story, pass it on!” A perfect example of a balanced 5th chakra: It can actively listen and speak its truth from the heart.

If the energy in the throat chakra is unbalanced, we either do not communicate at all, or are too talkative, gets lost in gossip and are deceitful.

On a physical level, an unbalanced throat chakra manifests itself in problems with the thyroid gland, tension in the neck area, problems with hearing, the ears, the jaw, the oral cavity and the throat. In the throat and cervical spine, everything that is unspoken accumulates in the form of blocked energy. This can lead to speech disorders, to a lump in the throat, to stuttering, but also to excessive talkativeness.
Tension in the jaw area manifests itself for example in teeth grinding during sleep. New civilization diseases such as ringing in the ears and tinnitus are due to the constant noise and noise pollution of Western culture.

If the energy in the 5th chakra is balanced we speak our truth and have a conscious, honest, inspiring communication: Fellow human beings like to listen to our talk.

Activation and Harmonization of the throat-chakra

The color blue: blue clothes, especially as a scarf around the neck

Stones: turquoise, moonstone

Expression of one’s creativity

Honest communication, setting boundaries, formulating and expressing one’s own wishes and needs

Uplifting, positive Music

Sound meditation, mantras

Yoga: shoulder exercises, head circles, shoulder stand, cobra, camel, nose to knees

Affirmations for the throat chakra:

💙 I speak my truth! I am being heard!
💙 I allow myself to speak my truth! I allow myself to be heard!
💙 I have the right to speak my truth! I have the right to be heard!
💙 I have an open ear for my fellow human beings!

The 6th Chakra – Ajna is located between the eyebrows and the root of the nose. It is also called the 3rd eye and is the carrier of the 6th sense. It intensifies the perception of the 5 senses ( smelling- tasting- seeingtouching- hearing).

Themes of the 6th Chakra – Ajna

Its themes are intuition: seeing and feeling beyond the material surface, as well as mediating between the polarities of mind and intuition to higher knowledge. It heals conflicts between thinking and feeling.

Intuitive thinking belongs to the right hemisphere of the brain, which regulates emotional and creative intelligence. The left hemisphere of the brain represents rational mind and analytical and logical abilities. Intuition and reason should complement each other, be in balance. Only together they grasp the holistic comprehension of reality. In the 6th chakra the overcoming of this polarity between intuition and mind becomes possible. The 3rd eye has great influence on the ability to anticipate future developments and to develop visions, it can also remember the past.

On a physical level, the 6th chakra regulates the chemical processes in the brain. It is closely connected to the pituitary gland. This very strongly influences the glandular system and has a great impact on mental well-being and our mood.

If the energy in the 6th chakra is unbalanced, your thoughts rule you, you cannot stop them, or you “over-intellectualize” everything and deny the spiritual aspect within you.

On a physical level, the imbalance manifests itself in: Visual disturbances, confusion, dizziness, nightmares, migraines and headaches.

A balanced 6th chakra manifests in: inner clarity, mental freedom, sense of deep truth even if it cannot be immediately put into thoughts or words. We can read between the lines, are connected to our intuition, are clairvoyant, have a good concentration and strong projection.

MEDITATION IS THE CENTRAL INSTRUMENT TO CALM THE MIND AND TO CHANNEL THE THOUGHTS.

Activation and Harmonization of the Third Eye Chakra

The color indigo or light purple

Stone: amethyst

Trust in your own intuition

Gyan Mudra, meditation on the 3rd eyeYoga: baby position (the head bows to the heart), archer, forehead on the ground, yoga mudra, kirtan kriya

Affirmations for the 6th chakra:💜 I see! I am being seen!
💜 I allow myself to see! I allow myself to be seen!
💜 I have the right to see! I have the right to be seen!

The 7th Chakra – Sahasrara – is also called CROWN CHAKRA. It helps us to feel at one with ourselves, our world and the universe. It is located at the crown, the highest point of the head. According to the understanding of yoga, it is the seat of the soul, where the connection between individual and cosmic consciousness takes place.

The themes of 7th Chakra – Sahasrara are:

Confidence in one’s spiritual path and being integrated into a greater whole!

It’s descriptive verb is: I accept (what is), I know (that all is One)!

The opening of the Crown Chakra

The opening of the 7th Chakra – Sahasrara requires a good grounding, otherwise one loses the ground under the feet, can no longer distinguish between illusion and reality.

When the energy flows up from the root chakra to the crown chakra, we trust in our own path and being integrated into a greater whole. The lower 6 chakras must be open and in harmony so that the energy can flow freely to the 7th chakra.

The crown chakra is where the encounter with infinity and the direct experience of transcendence takes place.

When the crown chakra is open, you perceive this “being one with everything” as absolute ecstasy! According to the understanding of yoga, the crown chakra is the seat of the soul, where the connection between individual and cosmic consciousness takes place. In the crown chakra the encounter with infinity and the direct experience of transcendence takes place.

Unbalanced – Balanced Crown Chakra

If the energy in the 7th Chakra – Sahasrara is unbalanced, we tend to exaggerated materialism, negate the transcendental forces and limit the experience of the world to the direct sensory perceptions on the one side. On the other side, religious extremism is also a sign of an unbalanced 7th chakra. Other factors include: Sleep disturbances, feelings of isolation or existential crises of the meaning of life. Mental illnesses are also related to a disbalance in the crown chakra.

If the energy in the 7th chakra is balanced, we feel at one with our own soul, the world and have a deep trust in the unknown. Meditation has the same meaning for the crown chakra as eating and drinking has for the body!

Activation and Harmonization of the 7th Chakra – Sahasrara

The colors white, gold, violet

Stone: rock crystal

Reading spiritual texts, books

Concentration on the tip of the nose, visualizations

Meditation: It has the same meaning for the crown chakra as eating and drinking has for the body!

Affirmation for the crown chakra:

🤍 I know that everything is one!

Your aura acts like a sieve that can distinguish desirable and undesirable influences like a filter. It is like a defense system that allows you to consciously decide whether outside influences are desirable or hostile. For example, whether you want to open up to or withdraw from a person or situation! The Aura Body is all about Security & Protection, Projection & Attraction!

Especially sensitive people should work on clearing and strengthening their energy field daily. We feel the energies of the outside world and other humans much more than people who just do not feel as much. If surrounded by low vibrations with a weak auric body, one can take on those energies of the surroundings as his/her own. If surrounded by high vibrations, we also take on that energy. Taking on positve vibes from the surroundings is much more comfortable of course.

BUT: Rather than taking on the energies of the outside world, it is healthier to project one’s positive or neutral energy onto the outside world!

If our energy field is strong, we have a natural, invisible shield! We project our high energy onto the outside world & attract high energy in return, or are at least (more) neutral towards negativty from our surroundings.

I trust this brief explanation gave you good reasons to strengthen the Aura Body – Security & Protection guard for your system daily.

If your aura body is weak, you feel pursued by the bad luck.

If your aura body is strong, you have a natural, invisible shield! You can project your own wishes and intentions to the outside!

Activation and Harmonization of the Aura Body

The color white: white clothes

Visualization of a protective field

Meditation

Yoga: arm exercises
